The Historic Harrisburg Association is excited to announce plans to restore the Historic Harrisburg Resource Center located in the heart of Midtown, Harrisburg. With the recent developments of HACC Midtown, Campus Square, the upcoming Furlow Building, and the Susquehanna Art Museum, the Third Street Corridor is becoming a thriving business and arts district. Historic Harrisburg plans to add to the excitement with plans to restore and transform its brownstone bank building, across from the Broad Street Market, into a community and cultural hub. The Resource Center is a grand structure with a rich history, and restoring the building to be a suitable structure for more visitors and daily use by the community will require an aggressive effort. The Resource Center is in need of substantial upgrades, including major renovations to the main banking hall, community room, and second floor office space, which will require improvements in several phases. The first phase includes restoration of the skylight and second floor and is expected to be finished by November 2011, providing the community joins us in our mission. Subsequent phases of necessary improvements which include renovations to the basement, heating, cooling upgrades and continued renovations to the main banking hall are scheduled to begin as funding goals are achieved. Historic Harrisburg has secured matching funds of up to $50,000 from Preservation Pennsylvania. With your help, we have a unique opportunity to raise funds for the first phase of improvements and begin planning future phases right away. In order to successfully complete the project, Historic Harrisburg is calling on community members, business leaders, foundations, and neighbors to contribute in the effort. No contribution is too small. Consider contributing today to have your contribution matched, up to $50,000, by funds received from Preservation Pennsylvania. Donors contributing $250 or more will the opportunity to be listed on a plaque for their efforts in helping to restore one of Harrisburg's prized treasures.
