Historic Harrisburg lost a long-time supporter and advocate in Mary (Rinehardt) Peterson who passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday evening August 10th at Homeland Center in Harrisburg. September 13th would have been her 94th birthday.
As one of the founding members of the Historic Harrisburg Association, Mary and her husband, Hugh, restored the landmark property at Green and Briggs Streets which was often featured on house tours. Their home was filled with the many antiques that Mary collected over the years. Both Mary and Hugh were strong enthusiasts of Historic Harrisburg having participated in many events and activities and always offering sound advice to enhance the Association’s work.
Hugh passed away several years ago, also at Homeland which they found to be a wonderful residential alternative in their later years. We of course will greatly miss Mary and wish the deepest sympathy to her extended family.
